Gem County Engineer

In support of the Portneuf Greenway’s goal to build “Miles of Memories,” Keller Associates worked with community partners on this successful pathway project. We love projects that better connect people.  Not only are we an engineering company, but we are engaged community members who promote wellness and outdoor opportunities.

The Marshall-Racine Path is a multi-use pathway connecting the Farm Bureau Insurance building with the Monte Vista overpass adjacent to I-15 in Pocatello, Idaho. Primary funding was provided through a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant offered by the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC).  The project was administered by ITD District 5, and our collaborative design process was fully engaged with the City of Pocatello and the Portneuf Greenway Foundation.  Other community partners provided funding contributions and input.

Elements of design included traversing hillsides, crossing steep drainages, navigating public and private lands along the route, and building aesthetic retaining wall systems. Grades were held to less than 5% for ADA accessibility as the path gently climbs above the City providing a clear view of the entire valley.  Amenities include several strategically located resting areas complete with bike racks, benches, and picnic tables.
